The state educational institution "Secondary School No. 2 of Mstislavl" is the successor to secondary school No. 1. In September 2001, the school's teaching staff, together with students, moved to a new modern building on Pyotr Mstislavets Street, preserving the traditions and history of secondary school No. 1.

It is believed that the history of the school begins in October 1872, when Baroness M.V. Pilar von Pilhau opened a four-year women's school. The building was located at the intersection of Sobornaya Street (modern Sovetskaya Street) and Alexander II. Only children of nobles and officials, clergy and philistines could study at the school. In 1907, the school was transformed into an eight-year female gymnasium in which the daughters of the city nobility studied. Based on these claims, the school in 1972 celebrated the 100th anniversary of the school, and in 1997. 125th anniversary.

However, it is reliably known that the building in which secondary school No. 1 was located belongs to the male gymnasium and is located at the intersection of modern Proletarskaya and Lenin streets.

In 1906, the city council decided to build a building in Mstislavl for the city male gymnasium. A plot of 279 square meters was allocated for construction. Soot. in the city garden on the street. Smolenskaya (modern Proletarskaya street). The design of the gymnasium was developed by the architect of the Vilnius school district S.M. Valansevich. The construction was completed in 1908. The first director of the gymnasium was V.G. Krasnyansky.

Here is what he writes about the building: "There are no beautiful and large buildings in the city, and the men's gymnasium building is without a doubt the only one in beauty and size. Mstislavs are proud of him in justice not only because it is the best in the city and one of the best buildings among the educational institutions of the Vilnius district. But also because it was created mainly at the expense of such a small and backwater town. "

After 1917, a comprehensive school and a pedagogical college were placed in this building. It is from this moment that the history of Mstislavskaya secondary school No. 1 begins.

In the 1932-1933 academic year, seven-year studies are introduced.

Already from the 1936-1937 school year, secondary school No. 1 became indicative in the district. It concentrates the best pedagogical personnel. Chemistry teacher Shurakhta Yakov Vasilievich, history teacher Kovrizhko Ivan Nikiforovich, singing teacher Altarzhevskaya Lidia Nikolaevna and others enjoyed great authority among teachers and students. In 1938, the first graduation took place. Before World War II, the school made four graduates

1941-1945 - from the first days of the war, students and teachers, fighting in the ranks of the Soviet Army, show examples of heroism and courage:

     • From the Volga to Berlin, the combat path of Senior Lieutenant Stanislav Orlovsky, who began his pedagogical activity in secondary school No. 1, passed.

     • Illarion Alekseevich Maksimov, Oleg Andreevich Yasinsky, Vasily Ivanovich Kuzmenkov defended their homeland on different fronts

     • The disciples Yakov Esepkin, Semyon Kravtsov, Mikhail Kiselev, Alexander Nikitin and many others died the brave in the battlefields.

     • For communication with partisans, teachers Y. V. Shurakhta, Pritulenko and others were shot.

In September 1943, soldiers of the Soviet Army liberated the city of Mstislavl. Despite the fact that during the years of occupation, a school building with all the equipment burned down in the fire in October 1943, classes resumed. There were many difficulties in the work: the material base was practically absent, classes were held in unsuitable unheated rooms, there were no textbooks and writing supplies. But this did not overshadow the joy of freedom from the Nazi invaders. The first postwar graduation took place in the 1946-1947 academic year. The director of the school at that time was P.S. Keiser. For some time, M.M. Kalistratov worked as the director of the school, and then I.S. Pechkovsky took over the baton. Ivan Stepanovich worked as an inspector of the district, director of the evening school of working youth and for more than thirty years headed secondary school No. 1. Since 1958, the school has become a basic school. More than a thousand students were engaged here annually. At school, 10 classrooms were equipped with the latest visual aids and devices. Worked class of machine science, museum named after V.I. Lenin, methodological office, pioneer room. The library at that time had a book fund of more than 12 thousand copies. In the 1959-1960 school year, the school began to operate 7 extended-day groups for 245 students in grades 1-6. Zoya Alekseevna Ilyinskaya, Tamara Stepanovna Pechkovskaya, Mikhail Afanasevich Lodochkin, Anna Ilyinichna Tishkovskaya and others worked as educators in these groups. An important event in the life of the school was the introduction of industrial training in 1960. The boys were engaged in autodel, and the girls worked in a sewing workshop under the guidance of an experienced master Zoya Alekseevna Belyakova, who skillfully instilled the skills of cutting and sewing. In February 1963, the pioneer squad of the secondary school No. 1 was named after the pioneer hero Pavlik Morozov. In 1965, the school met with his mother Tatyana Semenovna Morozova. Pioneer leaders Zoya Artemovna Muraveyka, Nina Kharitonovna Podkovenko, Galina Nikolaevna Svetacheva always held interesting meaningful gatherings of the pioneer squad, various contests, quizzes, oral magazines, solemn lines, educational campaigns and excursions were held at the school.

The school has always paid great attention to the labor education and professional guidance of schoolchildren. High school students helped state farms and collective farms of the district to harvest potatoes and root crops.

In 1967, a forestry department was created at the school, which united students in grades 5-6. In 1970, it was a member of VDNH, and in 1971, according to the results of work among the forestries of the region, it was awarded the first prize by the regional department of nature conservation with the presentation of 10 sets of uniforms.

The friendly close-knit creative team of school teachers considered it his task to give not only strong thorough knowledge, but also to educate a citizen - a patriot of his homeland. In 1967, as a result of the search work of the history teacher, local history enthusiast Vladimir Lukich Gasenkov, a museum of history and local lore began to actively work at the school, which became the center of patriotic education for schoolchildren. Over the many years of the museum's work, under the guidance of teachers, the guys have collected truly unique, valuable exhibits and documentary evidence of the history of our region.

     1972 - the school celebrates a significant date - 100 years!

During the 1971-1972 school year, the school employed 67 teachers and educators. Of these, 32 teachers had higher education, an unfinished higher education -8, and a secondary education -23.

Day after day, year after year, the teaching staff and students increased the best traditions of the school, achieved new successes both in academic and educational work.

For high labor and creative achievements TP Mikhailova, A.R. Bobova, I.G. Vasilyeva, L.K. Dmitrieva were awarded the high title of honored teachers of the BSSR, and 11 teachers became excellent students of public education. Among them are I.S. Pechkovsky, V.I. Romanenko, D.S. Kozlovskaya, D.S. Bolmotov, M.I. Galkina, V.A. Davydenko, V.L. Gasenkov, V.V. Reztsova and others.

11 teachers were awarded for the labor valor of the anniversary Lenin medal - M.A. Avramov, V.S. Dracheva, E.A. Baranovskaya, N.I. Bobov. Many teachers were awarded diplomas of the Ministry of Education of the BSSR, and the school itself was awarded a diploma of the Supreme Council of the BSSR.

In March 1985, the director of the school was appointed the initiative experienced practice leader Leonid Petrovich Kopylov, behind whom was not only life experience, but also pedagogical. He accepted the school at a difficult time - the period of perestroika begins in the Soviet Union.

In the 90s, the school continues the traditions that originated earlier, in them the strength of the educational process. Since 1992, the All-Belarusian expedition "Our Land" has been held at the school...

Meetings are held with war and labor veterans, participants in the liberation of Mstislavschina, and with the latter correspondence, this work is carried out by the Search group led by Valentina Danilovna Maslakova.

Heartfelt letters of gratitude were sent to the school museum from the native soldiers who died during the liberation of the Mstislavsky Territory, those who were found by the pathfinders and returned from the lists of the missing. And on holiday days there are postcards and telegrams from the councils of veterans of the 344th and 277th rifle divisions.

The school lived an interesting life full of events. Graduates of the school with warm feelings recalled their studies within these walls. But unfortunately, the school building was dilapidated, it was dangerous for the life and health of students to study in it. It was decided to build a new modern school.

In 2001, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander G. Lukashenko inaugurated the secondary school No. 2 of Mstislavl on Peter Mstislavets Street. At first, only high school students were engaged in it, the wing for elementary school was opened a little later. The director of the school was appointed Kharitonov Valery Sergeevich.
